Aimed at off-road bikers with some experience, this tour is a total of 7 days; your arrival & departure days, plus 5 days biking. You will experience: fast tracks across vast dried lake beds more sandy river beds rocky tracks up through the southern foothills of the High Atlas Mountains virgin desert sand to the famous Cathedral Dunes at Erg Chebbi (the highest in Morocco!) twisting trails through the palmeries of the Draa Valley the breath-taking Todra Gorge with its impressive 400 meter vertical walls Jebel Sahro - considered some of the most beautiful mountains in Morocco A night in desert bivouac Day 1 - Arrival Ouarzazate (or Marrakesh) Ouarzazate Airport transfer is free to our 3 star hotel in town only about 5 minutes away. Marrakech Airport is 4 hours journey to our hotel in Ouarzazate. (Transfers extra) Day 2 - (approx. 190Kms) Breakfast. Final briefing, and departure for Dades. After refuelling the bikes its straight off-road, 20 Kms across a flat plateau and it's into a sandy twisting riverbed before emerging in the southern foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. From there it's undulating, fast sections interspersed with rocky trails winding their way through major washouts and gullies. Picnic lunch somewhere up on the plateau. 10kms on road and then onto a beautiful, narrow, sinuous mountain track - so narrow and steep in places that the support vehicle can find it difficult. 2 Kms on road before the final 8 Kms off road brings us to our hotel for this evening. We are staying in a 4-star hotel with unusual local decor and spectacular views across the Dades valley towards the High Atlas, offering spacious accommodation and plentiful buffet meals. Day 3 - (approx. 250kms) We leave the hotel after breakfast and depart for Erfoud. The first 55kms are all new for us, beautiful mountain tracks followed by a fast ride across a plateau on winding undulating tracks, not a rock in sight (amazing for this area of Morocco). On arrival in Tineghir we take a 14 kms detour by road to drive up and visit the Todra Gorge with its sheer (over 400m high) cliffs. Refuel then a very fast section across a desert plateau to Goulmima where we have our picnic lunch in the palmeraie followed by virgin desert - no tracks! We navigate by GPS through small dunes and dry riverbeds to Erfoud. Particular care to be taken on this section. For those of you not up to technical, hard dune riding we now have the option of a fast sinuous tack that pops out onto the asphalt only 1 Km from our hotel for this evening. Cool beers by the pool in our 4-star hotel. Buffet dinner. Day 4 - (approx. 200kms) Breakfast and make our way off-road, to Erg Chebbi (about 45kms) and the famous Red Dunes at Merzouga, where we will attempt to reach the top of the highest "cathedral" dune. After lunch in a local auberge, a further 150kms starting with hard packed, winding tracks along side the lake (if there's water, watch out for flamingos!), to a large, dry sandy riverbed crossing. Then it's on to very pleasant, fast winding sandy trails. Loads of Acacia trees and for those who know east Africa, you could be there - just missing the giraffs and elephants - and on to tonight's accommodation in our pleasant Berber bivouac with hot showers, situated close to a large area of middle sized dunes. In the late afternoon/early evening, once the sand has cooled down, those wanting more biking can go and play in the dunes or alternatively walk to the top. Day 5 - (approx. 250 kms) Breakfast and another early start across the desert towards N'Kob, 30kms through low dunes to our refuelling point at the village of Remlia. Fast winding trails crossing flat, dry lakes, deep sandy riverbeds, and deep "fesh fesh" (bull dust) until we get to Lake Maider where we stop for a drink in a local auberge. A further 30kms through sandy riverbeds to our lunch spot - another local auberge situated in a small gorge. From here we turn North across a very flat plateau on super fast twisting tracks that wind around all the flat topped hills and Acaia trees that dominate this area (those of you wanting to attempt some of the numerous sandy dunes that are formed by the wind piling up the sand against these rocky formations are welcome). Don't get any air though, its not sand waiting on the other side but big, gnarly rocks. We join the asphalt 30 Kms from our hotel for this evening in the village of N'Kob, a beautiful Riad with pool and verdant gardens. Day 6 - (approx. 220 kms) We start the day with 10kms on-road before turning North and onto an new section off-road, winding tracks through the mountains and then down into the palmaraie for some slow twisting tracks alongside the Draa River on the way to our refuelling point in the village of Agdz. After a quick coffee it's a further 160kms of beautiful tracks that wind through the mountains to our final destination in the town of Ouarzazate. After dropping the bikes at our garage and checking them over together with our mechanic Hussein for damages you will be transferred the 2 Kms to our hotel by mini bus for the very welcome end of tour beers. This has made things both more interesting for you, the riders, as well as allowing as many as 5 different small groups to be operating at their own comfortable speed between the guide with the faster lead group and the assistance vehicle following behind, completely removing the feeling of holding up the faster bikers that the slower paced bikers used to feel. When out on tour, at least one of our mechanics travels in the assistance vehicle. This carries our medical equipment - such as vacuum stretcher, defibrillator, splints and oxygen, a very extensive first aid box, a fridge, compressor, tools & spare parts, a permanent satellite phone link, as well as your baggage. Our guide also carries a first aid kit as well as small pieces of medical equipment in his b ackpack. The assistance vehicle has limited space to carry luggage so we supply a barrel type soft bag for all our clients to put their personal effects and clothing for the tour. Only this bag permitted. Bear in mind you will be in biking gear most of the time. Any excess gear can be left at our base and picked up at the end of the tour. PLEASE ADVISE IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO ANY MEDICATION OR FOOD BEFORE COMMENCING THE TOUR.
