Aimed at off-road bikers with good experience. This tour is a total of 8 days; your arrival & departure days, plus 6 days biking. Most of the trails and some of the hotels, are new from 2013. You will experience: fast tracks across vast dried lake beds sandy river beds and fesh-fesh rocky tracks up through the southern foothills of the High Atlas Mountains virgin desert sand to the famous Cathedral Dunes at Erg Chebbi (the highest in Morocco! - Johnny Maroc recently discovered a cathedral dune right at the back towards Algeria that rises 154m - to date we thought the highest was 124m!!) the breath-taking Todra Gorge with its impressive 400 meter vertical walls Jebel Sahro - considered some of the most beautiful mountains in Morocco a night under the stars, with campfire and local musicians, at our bivouac - 90 kms from the nearest road! top quality accommodation Day 1  Arrival Ouarzazate (or Marrakech) Ouarzazate Airport transfer is free to our 4 star hotel in town only about 5 minutes away. Marrakesh Airport is 4 hours journey to our hotel in Ouarzazate. (Transfers extra) Day 2 (approx 230 k) A very pleasant days biking giving you time to get accustomed to your bike and the terrain. After breakfast and about 6kms on road, we take off into the countryside heading west on a sweeping trail prepared for asphalt but not yet covered with the black stuff. It's then off road proper, predominantly hard packed soil interspersed with some short rocky sections, river crossings and small villages. There are some long sections of undulating trail, twisting through the hills with not a rock in sight. After 100 km we turn south-eastwards after our picnic lunch, which is taken somewhere on the trail, and wind our way down through the Anti Atlas Mountains to the town of Agdz. A quick refueling and coffee stop then its 30 kms off road again through the palmaraie hugging the river Draa before we hit the asphalt. Here we head due east for 22 kms on road stopping at our nights accommodation in the village of N'Kob. Tonight we will be staying at an old converted Kasbah. Day 3 (approx 190 K) The first 30kms spent winding along the Draa Valley through the palmeraie with its narrow trails, many kasbahs in ruins and countless inhabitants. We turn north and cross a high pass over the Jebel Saghro range of mountains - considered some of the most beautiful in Morocco. Spectacular views, winding rocky trails with drop-offs down into fertile valleys, twisting mountain passes and isolated Berber villages. We will be having lunch today in a typical Moroccan auberge (inn) high in the mountains. We emerge south of the High Atlas and continue through the foothills of the mountains, traverse the Valley of the Roses and a rocky riverbed to come out in the fertile Dades Gorge. Most of today's route is new for us. We are staying in a 4-star hotel with spectacular views across the Dades valley, offering spacious, unusual accommodation, a roof-top swimming pool with a heated outdoor Jacuzzi, massage facilities and plentiful buffet meals. Day 4 (approx 270 k) After breakfast we head south from the hotel towards our destination for the night - the desert jaima (tent). First 100 kms is spent crossing the high passes and biking South down through the Jbel Saghro mountain range on twisting trails with dramatic rock formations and amazing scenery to reach the beginning of the desert. We refuel before starting the desert section. Winding sandy trails and riverbeds that lead us onto the enormous dry lakebed of Lac Maider. From here we traverse through the dunes to where we re-fuel at Remlia and then a further 20kms through dunes to our night's stop at the desert bivouac with hot showers. Situated close to a large area of middle sized dunes, in the late afternoon/early evening, once the sand has cooled down, those wanting more biking can go and play in the dunes or alternatively walk to the top. Again most of today's route is new for us. Day 5  (approx 145 k) Set off after breakfast up a twisty sandy riverbed and then onto very pleasant fast winding, sandy trails. Loads of Acacia trees and for those who know East Africa you could be there - just missing the giraffes and elephants! We will arrive at our lunch stop at the dunes of Merzouga around mid day. After lunch we will start our assault on the 'cathedral' dunes. There are at least 20 of the big 'cathedral' dunes all over 100 mtrs high. John recently found a range of dunes towering over 150 mtrs above the plain. All are waiting to be conquered by you. At around 4 pm we will exit the dunes and do the last 40 Kms across fast tracks to our hotel for today in the town of Erfoud. We are staying at a 4 star hotel that can only be described as Disneyland Kasbah style. Big spacious rooms together with a fully equipped spa make this evenings stay memorable. Day 6 (approx 220 k) Refuel and then off-road onto a pleasant winding sandy trail which hugs the southern foothills of the High Atlas and leads to the "Stairway to the Stars" - an unusual abode built by an eccentric German architect in the middle of the desert. We also visit the "Orion's stars" and the "Amonite" which are two further creations made by the same architect. Having visited these we carry on a further 65kms across the desert. Lunch will be a picnic or taken in a local cafe. After lunch we refuel in Goulmima and its 98kms across a fast plateau, with rocky trails and sandy riverbeds and winding hard packed tracks followed by a 14km detour by road to visit the Todra Gorge with its impressive towering 400m high vertical walls, and then back to the town of Tineghir to our night's accommodation. Day 7 (approx 220 k) After breakfast refuel. Then it's off into another area of the Jebel Saghro mountain range for about 100kms on winding trails. Again major drop offs and wonderful scenery. Arriving in Dades we refuel and then 6km up the Dades Gorge we take off eastwards following the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Undulating, fast sections interspersed with rocky trails through major washouts and gullies, bringing us out onto a plateau. Picnic lunch somewhere up on the plateau. A sandy twisting riverbed and a further 20kms of fast trails across a flat plateau bring us back to Ouarzazarte and our first night's hotel. Day 8 Transfer back to Ouarzazate airport or Marrakech. This has made things both more interesting for you, the riders, as well as allowing as many as 5 different small groups to be operating at their own comfortable speed between the guide with the faster lead group and the assistance vehicle following behind, completely removing the feeling of holding up the faster bikers that the slower paced bikers used to feel. When out on tour, at least one of our mechanics travels in the assistance vehicle. This carries our medical equipment - such as vacuum stretcher, defibrillator, splints and oxygen, a very extensive first aid box, a fridge, compressor, tools & spare parts, a permanent satellite phone link, as well as your baggage. Our guide also carries a first aid kit as well as small pieces of medical equipment in his b ackpack. The assistance vehicle has limited space to carry luggage so we supply a barrel type soft bag for all our clients to put their personal effects and clothing for the tour. Only this bag permitted. Bear in mind you will be in biking gear most of the time. Any excess gear can be left at our base and picked up at the end of the tour. PLEASE ADVISE IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO ANY MEDICATION OR FOOD BEFORE COMMENCING THE TOUR.
